Birthed in the gutters of West Oakland in the fall of 2014, Atrament are a blackened d-beat/metallic crust band that was founded by current and former members of Moral Void, Black September, Necrot, Abstracter, and Vastum as a means to worship at the unholy altar of total ruin and annihilation. The band coalesced around a shared love of its members for bands like Doom, Wolfpack, Discharge, Deviated Instinct, Amebix, Bolt Thrower, early Napalm Death, Craft, Beherit, Dismember, and Darkthrone, and has from there evolved to become a conduit for some of the most abject, war-injected, and hostile aural desecration imaginable. Built upon a nightmarish lyrical and theamtic landscape of plague, suffering and ruin, Atrament’s is a wretched sonic world in which humanity is rejected as a whole and a tomb of ash and radioactive fallout is summoned to encase it and devour it into total extinction. While remaining true to the roots of UK anarcho-punk and 90’s Scandinavian black and death metal from which they draw inspiration, Atrament's grim, abhorerent and savage songs are built upon an unforgiving barrage of d-beat drumming laced with the deadliest strains of primal death metal and of the most cancerous raw black metal, all stitched together with seamless ferocity and creating a bloodthirsty sonic onslaught where the lines between new and old and between metal and punk seem constantly blurred yet perfectly defined. Their journey began in 2015 with the release of a bludgeoning two song demo tape that instantly sold out, paving the way to the inevitable release of their debut album Eternal Downfall in 2016. Released by Argento Records and Broken Limbs Recordings, the barbaric album was an unseen thirty-five minutes of deviant d-beat punk cruelty punctuated by a murderous deluge of blast beats and by a barrage of assassin black/death riffs that abused the senses and battered the flesh. 2018 will see the release of Atrament’s second album, Scum Sect, through Sentient Ruin, Caligari Records, and Blood Harvest Records - a work of implausible filth and ferocity that will see the band’s metal-infested extreme punk taken to a new level of ruin and barbarism.
