CONVOCATION
Fusing soul-crushing death metal riffs with tortured vocals, suffocating atmospherics and solemn and otherworldly soundscapes woven with organs, synths, strings and coral clean vocals into their abysmal sound frame, Convocation are conjurors of a decaying aural realm where light and any form of hope are devoured into oblivion. The duo formed in Helsinki Finland in 2013, uniting vocalist MN from local doom metal ritualists Dark Buddha Rising, and multi instrumentalist LL from death metal tormentors Desolate Shrine, and immediately established themselves as one of the most intriguing new entities in death doom and funeral doom thanks for their debut Album "Scars Across", released in 2018 by Italy's Everlasting Spew Records, a colossal opus of churning and slow-moving extreme metal darkness and dismal atmospherics that elevated the duo as one of the genre's most exiting and transformative new entities. Convocation then set out to further refine themselves and exceed their own creation by working on a follow up LP, which as completed in 2019. Titled "Ashes Coalesce", the massive new LP is set to be collaboratively released in summer 2020 via Sentient Ruin (US LP) and Everlasting Spew Records again (EU LP/CD), and indeed astonishingly the new beast expands on the band's colossal sound by adding even more layers of chaos and torment to their already massively foreboding and imposing sonic architecture, standing high as on of the most astonishing and imposing displays of aural darkness and immensity to be delivered by the Finnish funeral doom scene in a long time.
