VERWOED
Utrecht-based solo black metal artist Erik B. began paving his path of destruction as one-man project, Woudloper, in 2014, creating an ethereal yet scathing style of extreme metal, heavily rooted in traditional black metal, yet reaching into more psychedelic realms of inspiration. Breathe Plastic Records released the critically acclaimed, self-titled Woudloper demo tape in 2015, yet immediately after its release the project changed its name to Verwoed, to symbolize that the beginning of an even more exploratory epoch of the band had begun. The maiden official Verwoed release, Bodemloos released by comrades Argento Records saw Erik B. peeling back even more layers off his project, exposing incredibly dense and much more psychedelic and hallucinogenic cosmic textures than before, while remaining yielding in its nihilistic and violent tactics. Bodemloos brought forth three massive new movements into existence, its immersive tones recorded, mixed, and mastered by John Bart Van Der Wal (Aborted, Herder), the album was completed by cover artwork created by Joost Vervoost (Terzij De Horde), and saw the band’s work being once again met with universal critical acclaim as Argento’s copies vanished from the shelves in record time. Assembling a live lineup, the band then took to the stage to bring Bodemloos songs live to various large European cities and playing a handful of high profile shows which included stints at the Eindhoven Metal meeting along the likes of Venom, Blasphemy, Coroner, Master's Hammer, Carpathian Forrest, and more, and then closing their staggering 2018 with an acclaimed performance at the Roadburn Festival. During this time the band also began work on their new album De Val, to be released in 2019 through their original label Argento Records in the EU, but with Sentient Ruin also involved finally being Verwoed’s gateway to the North American market.
